New York City is a hectic, frenetic place to be pregnant. For those of us who are transplants with family far away, having a baby can seem daunting. Many of us navigate the subway everyday, work long hours at stressful jobs and have busy social lives. Now add being pregnant to the mix and you’ve got a special set of challenges. While I can’t promise you a seat on the subway, or an understanding boss, I can assist you in having a sane pregnancy and birth. Whatever your choices, I offer my non-judgmental support in having the kind of birth that is right for you. One of the most important services I hope to provide my clients is knowledge so that you can feel empowered to have the birth you want.
I offer a complimentary consultation to discuss what you are looking for in a doula. If I am the right fit for you (and your partner), we will meet prenatally at least one or two times. At these meetings, I can help you to prepare your birth and post-partum plan, go over relaxation techniques and comfort measures to use during labor and offer suggestions for ways your partner can be an active participant. These meetings are individually tailored to your specific needs. Once I am hired, I am available via phone and email for questions and concerns. I will be physically on call from week 37 up to week 42 of your pregnancy. I can arrive as soon as contractions begin in early labor or if you and your partner prefer, I can be there at your convenience. Once I arrive, unless you need me to run an errand, I will stay to support both you and your partner until after the baby is born. I usually stay for at least an hour after the arrival of your baby to make sure you are comfortable and offer breastfeeding assistance as needed. If you are having a home birth, I will help clean up and change bedding so that you and your partner are free to enjoy your new baby.
Within a week of delivery, I will do a follow up visit to make sure the adjustment to parenthood is going well and go over the birth if you so desire. At this point, I can also make referrals to any post-partum resources you may need.
